A View from the Kiosk

Here’s my View from the Kiosk for Saturday the 6th of October

A very odd day weather-wise. Not sure if it was hot or cold, humid or dry. It was the kind of weather where you see some people wearing down jackets and others wearing tee shirts, shorts and sandals. I wore my ugly green sweatshirt. I wish the conservancy would get someone with fashion sense to design our uniforms. This sweatshirt makes me look like a big green booger. Today, I had more interesting observations than actual interactions.

#1 Best Question? “Where is the exit?” I love this question, because people get annoyed when I ask them where they are trying to exit to. What I have found is that if I don’t probe, I will send them to the wrong exit, as there is no one exit to the park

#1 Best Interaction? A man and woman are standing right in front of the kiosk. He is squinting into his iPhone, clearly in need of reading glasses. She is annoyed and keeps telling him to “ask the man.” He of course, will not. Straight men asking for directions is as anathema as big pharma investing in a male birth control pill. Finally, he says, “okay! This way!!” and as they trot off to Strawberry Fields, she looks at me, winks and throws up her arms.

#2 Best Interaction? Woman walks by the kiosk, looks at me and says, “Honey, this ain’t no 10-minute walk!”

#1 Best Map Request? A woman came up to the kiosk and in a loud demanding voice said, “Give me a map!” So, I gave her a map and with it, my best glaring look of indignation. She must have gotten my message, because then she said, “Oh Thank you!” “This is great!” “I appreciate what you do!” blah blah blah, she was a cow who needs to get back to the Dress Barn.

Visitors? My lovely sister Deborah. Not only came for a visit, but got to sit in the visitor’s chair, in the kiosk and watch the action from backstage!

#1 most asked question other than “where is Strawberry Fields?’ “Where is the Zoo”

Most Popular Language? Spanish. I got to practice my Spanish a lot today, which is always fun!
