Here’s my View from the Kiosk for Saturday the 18th of May.

What a pretty day! Crowded in the park. From 10 to 11, there were large groups of French tourists coming past the kiosk. We have a rule that we hand out one map per group. After all, the maps are free, and it would be nice to keep them that way. The problem is that when you have a group, any group, if one person gets something, everyone wants one. So, I spent an hour being a bit of a dick. I explained that if they wanted a souvenir, the Dairy gift shop would be a great place to buy one, but my maps were one per group.
Today was also the day of one of my favorite races in the park. Large groups of British police come to run a race all dressed in their uniforms. It is a highlight of the summer for me!

Gave out 230 maps and helped at least 350 people.
#1 Best Question? “Is fishing allowed in the lake?”
-“Yes, catch and release only”
“what if they catch a turtle or a duck?”
-“They would have to release it”
#1 Funny Interaction? “Where is the Friend’s Fountain?”
-“Right up the hill to the left”
“I just came from there, there is no fountain!”
-“There are trucks parked on the drive, did you look on the other side of the trucks?”
-”No”
#1 Weirdest Interaction? “Where is the Wasco Museum?”
I had never heard of this museum and I googled it for him and nothing came up. He insisted that it was a very well known and famous museum in New York City.
Most British? A local and I were chatting about the large groups of French tourists and I was complaining to her about all of them asking for maps. She cracked a joke and I started laughing. At that very moment, this most British of ladies walks up and says, “Oh dear, she really tickled you, didn’t she!”
Visitors? Just some of my locals who like to stop by and say Good Morning.
#1 most asked question other than “where is Strawberry Fields?’
“Where is the Tavern on the Green?”
Most Popular Language? French
