Here’s my View from the Kiosk for Saturday the 27th of April
It was a beautiful day in the kiosk. Started a little chilly, but warmed up nicely. It was also super busy AND I had a mentee with me. Together, we gave out 300 maps and helped about 800 people, so it was a very productive shift. Who was my mentee, you ask? Funny enough, as we live in a small world, it was my ex coworker, Debby Goldman. As you can see here

she was a great student and has learned how to point in a culturally neutral manner. The park was packed due to a Unity walk for Parkinson's research, so having her in the kiosk was a pleasure. Somebody asked me where booth 44 was for the Unity Walk. I know a lot of things, but this was a bit too specific for me.
#1 Best Question? “Where is the International Tai Chi Day Event?” This was asked by an older couple. They were frustrated and didn’t know where to go. I searched the Interweb, and found many sites advertising the event, and all of them said it was in Central Park. That’s it. No location. There was a phone number to call on one site, so I called it and a man answered. When I asked him where the event was in the park, he said, “I don’t know, that’s my wife’s project…..” Finally, I found another site that did say where in the park the event was being held, and I sent the nice couple on their way.
#2 Best Question? “How do we get to Barney Greengrass?”
#3 Best Question? “Where is the gift shop?”
#1 Funny Sight? A tour guide explaining to his large group of kids that Central Park is the largest park in NYC ( It is not) and that it is where the official Gay pride parade takes place ( it is not) and that the lake is a natural spring ( it is not)
#1 Best Interaction? Three Argentinian ladies visiting NYC on a girl’s trip. They were a hoot. I got to practice my Spanish and they were so patient with me and so complimentary of my language skills. Great liars. They asked me how to get to The Dakota, the Jose Marti statue and the Simon Bolivar Statue. They really tested me.
Visitors? Nobody.
Most Popular Language? Today was Spanish! It was great, I got to practice all morning.
So where is the kiosk?
