A View from the Kiosk

Beginning to feel like Spring

Here’s my View from the Kiosk for Saturday the 23rd of March

The shift started off cold and very windy but warmed up. Spring is in the air. There are some bulbs starting to come out and one tree had blossoms out. More people out on bikes and running, certainly a feeling in the air that the season is changing! Handed out about 95 maps and helped about 180 people in the two hours.

#1 Best Question? “How many sheep live in the Sheep Meadow?” This was followed up with, “What wildlife live in the Hallet Nature Sanctuary”, and then followed up with “How do I get to the 9/11 site?” At first thought this guy was just joking with me, but he was totally serious in his questions.

#1 Worst Interaction?Man smoking a cigar at the kiosk…….

- “You know, if the police see you smoking in the park, you might get a $50 fine”

- “Bub! $50 is worth it to me to smoke this cigar”

- “I bet the runners don’t agree with you!”

#1 Weirdest Interaction? “Do you know about the Impractical Joker?”

- “No”

- “OK” and they just walked away…………

#2 Weirdest Interaction? French visitors:

“Where is the statue of the soldiers shooting?”

-“I don’t know……..”

#1 Annoying “I need two maps, I have two children……….”

Visitors? Nobody.

#1 most asked question other than “where is Strawberry Fields?’ “Where is the Museum of Natural History?”

Most Popular Language? There was a real mix today of many different languages, the only common denominator was the large number of Eastern European looking women. What gave them away? This weird pink lipstick color that many of them like to wear.
