Here’s my View from the Kiosk for Saturday the 15thof September
So crazy busy in the kiosk today. Many events. Sickle Cell Anemia Walk, Oktoberfest +German American parade, Chess Tournament at Bethesda, Fancy picnic at Cherry Hill. So, with so many events, what does this mean? For starters a lot of African Americans, secondly, a lot of people on the spectrum trying to find Bethesda Terrace, third, a lot of silly people wearing lederhosen. It was packed in the park! I also got to speak a lot of Spanish today, although the majority of foreigners seemed to be from either France or Quebec. It also meant that people started knocking on my kiosk window before I was ready to open for the shift. One irite white woman was knocking on the window and shouting, “WHAT IS THAT NOISE?” referring to the DJ from the charity walk. Oh well………. FYI, next week, I am not in the park
#1 Best Question? “Where is the Friend’s Fountain?” This is normally not a qualifier for best question, but it was asked by a gaggle of 11-year-old British girls who were simply adorable and incredibly excited to be so close to this iconic place. Of course, I gave them directions with a smile and never told them that it really isn’t the fountain from Friends.
#1 Most Annoying? “Plan, Plan? Plan?” asked by more than one French tourist not understanding that I knew that “plan” meant “Map” in American.
#1 weird way to ask a Question? “Dear sir, could you please partake me a map?”
#1 Most asked? “Where is Strawberry Fields?” and about 50 variations on that.
“Where is John Lennon?”
“Where is Mosaico?”
#1 Most Annoying? The old biddy volunteer who has the shift after mine. Second week in a row, she shows up 15 minutes early and stares at me to open the door to let her in and give up the kiosk. So annoying. And, she is a sour puss. Stay tuned, there will be blood.
Visitors? YES. My dear friend Katja came by to visit. Also, my friend Pam had good intentions to meet me in the park but got stuck on the weekend subway. Luckily, she made it to the bloody Mary’s that were prescribed after this shift.
